Issue: Unable to uninstall Visual Studio Express 2012 from Windows computer

Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2012 installation did not get installed due to Access Denied error. But Visual Studio Express 2012 is found in the list of Programs in Control Panel > Uninstall a Program. As it is not installed properly, the Visual Studio Program is cannot be run.

Attempts to uninstall the program but still getting "Access Denied error".

Visual Studio Express setup log shows:
"Error 0x80070005: Failed to write run key value.
Error 0x80070005: Failed to update resume mode.
Error 0x80070005: Failed to begin registration session.
Error 0x80070005: Failed to begin registration session in per-machine process.
Error 0x80070005: Failed to register bundle."

How to workaround the issue of Visual Studio un installation error in Windows

After troubleshooting this issue for hours, found McAfee Antivirus was interfering with  the setup.

Steps to uninstall:
  • Open McAfee VirusScan Console - Click on the McAfee icon in the task pane (bottom right corner) > Manage Features > VirusScan Enterprise

  • From the VirusScan Enterprise Console: Disable "Access Protection"

The "Access Protection" will get auto enabled after some time. Keep watching this when uninstalling.

  • Uninstall Visual Studio. Make sure the Access Protection is still disabled when you start uninstall.

Same issue with installation:
The same error will appear during installation of Visual Studio from Windows. Apply the same process - disable antivirus and uninstall. See post here: http://techubber.blogspot.com/2016/02/unable-to-install-visual-studio-express-on-windows-access-denied-error.html
